How are you feeling after the two eclipses, Cancer season, and Mercury Retrograde? Feel like you need a lift or some help letting things go?
When in doubt, make a sugar scrub! Every herb and essential oil has a magickal correspondence. I’ve put together a sugar scrub with ingredients that can help you release anything you no longer need while giving you some protection as you shed your old skin. The idea is to help you release, purify, cleanse, and bring in protection, harmony, and love.
These planetary retrogrades have been knocking us for a collective loop, bringing up old habits and patterns that we’re meant to heal and move on from. However, shedding that final skin, releasing that last bastion of hope for something that wasn’t meant to be, can be a bit tough. I can’t promise this sugar scrub is going to do everything, but it can certainly help get the energy moving around you so that you’re able to move forward feeling renewed.
Herbs & Oils
I chose to use all of these dried herbs, with the exception of Geranium, which I used as an essential oil. Not all of these ingredients are going to make you smelling good, but in this case, cleansing isn’t necessarily about smelling good—it’s about getting the gunk out. That’s partly why I included flowers like Lavender and Rose, in addition to their protective and loving energies, respectively.
These are the herbs I used, with information gathered from my go-to book, The Hearth Witch’s Compendium: Magical and Natural Living for Every Day by Anna Franklin.

How to Make the Sugar Scrub
Combine the following ingredients:
1 cup of sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
Florida Water (optional)
Next, choose the herbs and essential oils you want to use in the scrub. If you have all the ingredients listed above, feel free to use them all! Make sure to be aware of any skin sensitivities or allergies you may have, and certainly don’t use any ingredients if they don’t agree with your body. I recommend starting with a pinch of any ingredient you want to use or a couple drops of the essential oil of your choice.
Before you begin, ask for protection of your mind, body, spirit, and home. Then you can call in anyone you want or anyone you regularly work with for assistance: your ancestors, spirit guides, angels, lwa, gods, goddesses, saints, angels, ascended masters, and higher power. Ask for them to help guide you to create a healing creation that is for your highest good and greatest benefit, and brings about changes that will come in a way you can handle.
When you do this, you might start feeling inclined to use other ingredients or hear the names of certain herbs stand out. This means the spirits you’ve called in are pointing out ingredients they want you to use. Feel free to use them, unless they’re something you know you’re allergic to or that could react badly with your skin.
Combine the sugar, oil, and herbs. I recommend using a coffee grinder or mortar and pestle to grind the herbs until they’re as close to a fine powder as you can get. If you use Florida Water in your practice, feel free to add a couple drops to help with clearing away negative energies.
Stir the ingredients until they’re combined completely, then adjust ingredients to your smell preference. Once you’re satisfied, do a patch test on a part of your body—I usually use my left forearm. See if your body has any reactions to the scrub. If it has a negative reaction, don’t use it. If you have no reaction, then it should be good to go.
Store in a plastic container or jar, something that is easy to reach into and that you’re not likely to drop in the shower. Thank the spirits you called in for their support in assisting you in this process.
Using the Sugar Scrub
You can use this scrub as part of your daily shower or cleaning routine until it’s all gone. You can also use this as part of a sacred ritual or even make it its own process—it’s entirely up to you and what you feel guided to do.
To help give some extra oomph to the scrub, cleanse your body first with either sage, palo santo, Florida Water, incense smoke, or by burning dried lavender. Imagine the energetic cords you have attached to all the people in your life, and imagine those cords detaching from you and simultaneously detaching from all the other people. You can imagine a sacred fire or the fiery core of the Earth, and visualize all of those cords going into the fire so those energies can be transformed into something else.
Use the sugar scrub in the shower or bathtub, rubbing against your skin as you imagine releasing anything you no longer want, cleansing, purifying, and protecting you moving forward, and bringing peace and harmony into your life. If you feel guided to, thank the Universe for the lessons you’ve learned from the experiences you’re letting go of and for giving you the support to see the situations clearly and heal from them.
Personally, I recommend doing this at night before bed in case this process makes you feel a little tired. You can certainly do it any other time of day, especially if you’re using it as part of your regular bathing routine.
To give extra power to this process, you can use the sugar scrub during a Waning Moon, which is a great time for releasing anything you don’t want.
Enjoy!
