We’re approaching the Full Moon in Capricorn on Tuesday July 16th, and with it there will also be a partial lunar eclipse. During this time we can all harness the hardworking and ambitious energy of the sign of Capricorn. The tenth sign of the zodiac, Capricorn is an Earth sign ruled by the planet Saturn and is depicted as the Sea-Goat. Capricorn is The Father, and reigns over rules, structure, discipline, career, ambition, and work. As an Earth sign it can move slowly, but with deliberate intention.
During the Full Moon in Capricorn the Sun will be in the sign of Cancer, which is directly opposite Capricorn in the zodiac’s wheel. In astrology Cancer is The Mother and rules over emotions, home, security, and family. It’s a Water sign depicted as the Crab, and is all about feelings.
With these elements combined, this is a powerful time to build a base at home and set intentions for all areas in your life related to work, ambition, and career.
Releasing With the Full Moon
A Full Moon is when the moon’s energy is at its most intense, which makes it a powerful time to release what you don’t want in your life and manifest what you do want in your life.
Releasing with the Full Moon is fairly simple: Write down anything and everything you no longer want to hold onto in your life. You can be as vague as “anything that is not for my highest good” or as specific as mentioning a behavior or emotional pattern.
Once you have your complete list, tell the Universe (either in your mind or out loud) that you release everything on that piece of paper, and burn it. Make sure you burn it in a safe place, such as a fireplace, fire pit, or over a bowl that can handle the heat. Throw out the ashes as soon as you can.
Then, you can do a quick meditation or visualization to imagine white light from the Universe coming in through your head and into your body, filling up the spaces you just released from.
Manifesting With the Full Moon
Next, you can manifest what you want to bring into your life. There are one of two ways you can choose to manifest, and it really comes down to which method feels right for you.
One way is to imagine the specific details of what you want. So for example, if you have a goal or idea for your job or business, imagine what it looks like when you come into work. See who you’re interacting with, how you talk to each other, and what tasks you’re doing. In this method of manifesting, you would ask your higher power or the Universe to bring you those specific things.
Another way to manifest is to ask the Divine to guide your path toward what is meant for you and what is best for you. Even though this traditionally isn’t considered when it comes to manifesting, I’m a believer that we don’t always know what is best for us. Sometimes the job we’re meant to do, the partner we’re meant to have, or the life we’re meant to lead is something we never expected and takes us by surprise—in a good way.
Whichever way you choose, create a visualization or write down a list, and spend a few moments with yourself. Sit with your back straight, take a few deep breaths, and focus on the feeling of what you want. You can read your desired list aloud or ask your spiritual team for the situation that’s best for you. Either way, enjoy the energy of being around your guides and ancestors, angels and ascended masters, and thank them for their support in your life.
When you feel ready, you can place your written manifestation somewhere important to you, such as under your bed, under a magickal candle (see below), burn it as a way of telling the Universe what you want, keep it in your clothes for the next few days, or place it somewhere special in your home.
Full Moon in Capricorn Magickal Plants
Herbs and plants can be used a variety of ways, such as dressing a magickal candle, making a meal, putting together a mojo bag, creating an Epsom salt bath, or even a sugar scrub. Here are the magickal plants that correspond to the sign of Capricorn and the Full Moon, according to The Hearth Witch’s Compendium: Magical and Natural Living for Every Day by Anna Franklin.
Capricorn
Comfrey - Cypress - Honeysuckle - Lilac - Magnolia - Mimosa - Moss - Myrrh - Patchouli - Tonka - Tulip - Vetiver - Vervain
Full Moon
Alecost - Avens - Bindweed - Birch - Blackberry - Buckwheat - Chervil - Cinquefoil - Clover - Cornflower - Dandelion - Fir - Frankincense - Hawthorn - Jasmine - Lady’s Mantle - Marshmallow - Mugwort - Periwinkle - Poppy - Red Rose - Strawberry - Sweet Cicely - Vine - Woodruff
You can create a bag with your manifesting wish list and herbs listed above, plus any others that you use in your magickal practice. If you’d like to make a candle, you can use a skewer to poke holes through a seven day candle of your choice and fill it with herbs and essential oils. You can use this in tandem with your manifestation ritual if you like, and hold the candle as you ask the Universe for what you want, even if it’s just whatever comes in for your highest good.
You can also make some Mugwort tea, a dessert with buckwheat and strawberries, burn Frankincense incense sticks—whatever feels right to you.
Whatever you do for the Full Moon, make sure it’s something that you feel comfortable with and that resonates with you. If that means eating some strawberries, gazing at the Moon, and feeling grateful for things going on in your life, do what feels good to you!
