How to Make Floral Ice Cubes for Summer

I love incorporating herbs into various things I do, and even sneaking them into treats for my non-witchy friends. One fun and creative way to do that over the summer is to make floral ice cubes.

If you’re having people over, or want to bring something unique to a get together, these are great for kids or to dress up nonalcoholic drinks so they still feel special with a little twist.

The directions for these are fairly simple. Here’s what you need:

Edible Flowers

Herbs

Pieces of Fresh Fruit

Ice Cube Tray

Water

Place the herbs, flowers, and fruit inside each individual ice cube box, and arrange as you like. Keep in mind that when you pour in the water, they’ll move around.

For my ice cubes, I used dried edible rose petals. I pulled the petals off of each bud separately so as not to include the seeds or stem. You can also use calendula or lavender, which are usually pretty easy to find.

For my herb, I chose to use leftover mint from another recipe, and you can do this as well. But keep in mind how that herb tastes to determine whether or not you want it infusing with your water.

Keep in mind that the ice cubes will melt (it is summer, after all) and people will have some floaties in their drinks. So long as the ingredients you’re using are edible, they’re all good.

If you have access to a few different flowers and herbs, you can also choose them based on their magical properties. Here’s some helpful information from The Hearth Witch’s Compendium: Magical and Natural Living for Every Day by Anna Franklin.
